Internal notes are blocks inside the editor for reminders, context, pronunciation cues, or planning notes that should stay separate from the prose.
They are visible while writing, but they are not counted as story text.
Add an internal note
Use any of these options:
- Open More in the editor toolbar and choose Internal Note.
- Type
/ and choose Internal Note from the slash command menu.
- Press
Mod-/.
You can also select paragraph blocks and turn them into an internal note.
How notes behave
Internal notes are:
- Excluded from word count
- Excluded from grammar checks as prose
- Excluded from character chat scene text
- Searchable from project search
- Included as author notes for Mana’s internal project context
Notes can contain paragraphs and basic marks such as bold or italic. They do not support headings, lists, images, or nested notes.
Enable or disable internal notes
Internal notes are controlled per project from Configuration under the editor text layout options.
If you disable Internal Notes for a project, existing internal note blocks are removed from documents instead of being converted into prose.
