# Labels

> Track the status of content nodes with colored labels.

Labels are project-level colored tags for text nodes in the content tree. Use them for draft status, point of view, timelines, priority, or any system that helps you scan the project.

New projects start with three labels:

* Draft
* In Progress
* Completed

## Assign labels

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the content tree">
    Go to the left sidebar in the editor.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open label editing">
    Right-click a text node and choose **Edit labels**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose labels">
    Check or uncheck labels for that document. You can also create, rename, recolor, delete, or reorder labels from the same popover.
  </Step>
</Steps>

Labels appear as stacked colored dots in the content tree and as chips in the [Outline](/en/outline).

## Manage project labels

Open **Edit labels** from a text document in the content tree or click its labels cell in the [Outline](/en/outline). The label popover lets you create, rename, recolor, delete, and reorder the project's labels as well as assign them to the selected document.

## Limits

Start projects can have up to 20 labels. Pro and Team projects can have up to 50 labels.
